Someone so scary

Ragam:
Story Play (Attakkatha):
Characters:

Hanuman, taking the ring in his hand,  evokes Srirama. I am done with half of my work.  Now let me find out the place where  Sitadevi is held captive by Ravana. There are so many beautiful mansions.  Here is a beautiful garden I can see a beautiful river flowing The gentle cool breeze is refreshing Let me see whether Sitadevi is there in  any of these palaces.  Let me search in this palace first.

Hanuman hears a dreadful sound from the  first palace. Hanuman enters into the palace. A gigantic demon sleeps there. I heard the sound of this demon’s snoring.  Who is he?  (thinking) Oh…got it. He is Kumbhakarna, Ravana’s brother who  gained the boon from Lord Brahma to have uninterrupted sleep. His sleep will soon stop for ever.

Hanuman sees another palace.  There are two beautiful ladies sitting  there. Who are they? (thinking) Yes…got it. They are Sati and Sulochana, wives of Ravana’s son Meghanada.  Alas! It’s their bad fate that they will  become widows in their young age itself !!!

Hanuman enters another palace.

(wonder) Here in a diamond studded cot,  a person with a noble countenance and divine glory is sleeping.  Who is he? (thinking).Yes…got it. He is none other than Vibheeshana, Ravana’s another brother, who got the  boon from Brahma to possess  unwavering devotion towards Lord  Vishnu.

Hanuman comes out of that palace.  While proceeding, he sees a diamond studded nine storied palace. Will this be Ravana’s  palace? Let me go  inside and find out.

A giant fellow who is as big as Anjana Mountain is sleeping here. (listens) He mutters ‘Sita…sita’ in his  sleep. Now it’s sure that Sitadevi is here  around.

There is a beautiful lady like Godess Mahalakshmi sleeping nearby. (thinking) Will she be Sitadevi?

My Lord Rama…Does all my effort become  futile? (thinking) When Srirama is living in the caves of Mount  Rishyamooka always thinking about Sitadevi, can a faithful wife like Sitadevi sleep like this  without any worries?

Again looking at the lady, hanuman  notices that the lady is muttering  something in the sleep. Tress is unbound. Not only that, widowhood is seen on her  face. Now I am very sure that she is not  Sitadevi.

Who is this beautiful lady then? (thinking) Yes…got it….She is Mandodari, one among the  Panchakalyanis and Ravana’s wife.” Please forgive me for suspecting Devi. Where has Ravana hidden  Sitadevi?(thinking) Yes…I remember. Sambadi told me that Sitadevi was sitting  under the Shimshipa tree situated in Ashokavanika.  Let me search anyway. While Hanuman roams, he overhears  chanting of Rama manthra.

Who chants Rama manthra in  Ravanapuri? He sees Ashokavanika afar. There, a lady sits in the middle of a few  demonesses crying. She is chanting Rama nama. She is Sitadevi,  I am sure.

Those demonesses are frightening her by  shouting at. But a lady is consoling her with sweet words. Alas ! This indiscrete Ravana doesn’t realise  that a place, even if it is Heaven, will be

burnt to ashes if faithful women are  tortured there. Hanuman hears a sound. What is the reason to have such a roaring  sound here?Hanuman looks at the Ravanapuri.

Many a demons with flambeau and  boisterous shouting are coming here. In their middle, Ravana who is dressed in  all splendour seen.

What is the purpose of coming here in  this night? I will hide myself anywhere in  this tree and find out his plan.
