I am surprised I have an enemy

English
I am surprised I have an enemy
but come to think of it, this makes me happy.

Can any monkey stop my fists which have the power
to split rutted elephants’ foreheads!

I have vanquished the gods, is it
now possible for a monkey to defeat me?

What are we waiting for? Let’s go now and
capture that senseless creature.

Ravana, hear me now

English
Ravana, hear me now; O feared
king, listen to my words

My words don’t depend on your moods
only the truth I am going to tell you

The story of Indra’s capture
by your son, and
helpless gods taking flight —
who doesn’t know all that!

At the mere mention of Ravana’s name
all the gods are left trembling;

O Narada, great sage, good-natured

English
Sloka:
Ravana greets Sage Narada, the son of Brahma, pays obeisance to him, offers him a seat and spoke to him with folded hands.

Ravana: (Narada mahamune)

O Narada, great sage, good-natured
without delay I bow at your feet.
Where are you coming from, tell me,
the news about Indra didn’t you hear?

My mighty son took Indra captive in battle

Glory to you Ravana, King of Lanka

English
Sloka:

Sage Narada, after appraising Bali of his plan, arrives at Ravana’s court with a big smile and starts praising him.

Glory to you Ravana, King of Lanka
glory to you the king of demons
glory to you the son of Kaikasi
glory to you the son of Poulasthya.

Glory to you the brother of Kumbhakarna
glory to you the brother of Soorpanakha

Which of your lotus-like faces

English
Which of your lotus-like faces
is the most beautiful I am confused
hence the delay in kissing your fruit-like lips;
it’s not because I am disinclined.

After enacting the above padam, both Ravana and Mandodari are seated in a passionate embrace.  Ravana, then enacts the approach of Rishi Narada as follows:

O Ravana, please listen to me

English
O Ravana, please listen to me, virtuous king
O Cupid-like husband, hearing your words.

My mind fills with growing happiness
Scared of your great prowess
all celestial damsels, including Urvasi,
shed their pride and shyness on seeing me
and sincerely prostrate before me.

O you have eyes like lotus petals

English
Sloka:
When Indra’s disgrace became public knowledge the merciless King Ravana was delighted and anointed his son as the Crown Prince. Ravana lustfully addressed his wife Mandodari thus.

O you have eyes like lotus petals
face like the autumn moon
a gait that puts to shame a herd of elephants
and teeth like jasmine buds.

My twenty arms and ten heads
