O valiant soul who subdued Indra’s pride

 

O vanquisher of enemies, your sister was

mutilated in the forest by a man

 

Lakshmana is his name, and

his brother Rama is a brave man

Arjuna, on realising that he has no more arrows in his quiver, beats the Hunter’s head with his bow whereupon Ganga, who resides in Siva’s locks, snatches the bow. A disillusioned Arjuna calls to the Almighty.

[The Hunter then flings Arjuna to the ground in a fist fight.]

O Son of Kusika, with your blessings

I am going to break Siva’s bow
 
I bow at the lotus feet of the Lord of the three
worlds and the king of gods
to remove any obstacles in my path;
I consider this a great fortune.
 
My mother, O Goddess, have mercy on me
O lotus-eyed and with neck like a conch
I am going to break the Thraiyambakam

Sloka:
King Janaka, with much enthusiasm, soon had his servants bring the Thryambakam bow, which shines like the sun, to the chamber and respectfully addressed the Sage thus.
 
O son of Kusika, crown of sages, world-renowned,
most tactful and with malice towards none
 
This is the bow famous over the three worlds
many are the kings striven to lift it and lost out

After Sage Goutama narrated the episode to Sreerama, Sage Vishwamitra took leave and arrived at the palace of King Janaka alongwith Sreerama and Lakshmana.
