Dakshayagam

English

Who is this brazenly approaching

English
Sloka:
Dakshan, after listening to the words of Indra, desired to see Lord Siva and happily proceeded to Mount Kailas. Seeing Daksha approach, the great Nandikeswara thought thus.

Who is this brazenly approaching
this mountain abode of Siva?

To come to Siva’s presence even
Brahma seeks my permission

Is this Vishnu or Varuna or Indra?

O good-natured son of Brahma

English
O good-natured son of Brahma,
don’t malign Siva even slightly

It’s only at His feet that the
seven worlds seek refuge

Alas! insulting Siva is at the root of
all misfortunes on earth

You may pray to Siva always
have no doubts about that

Go and meet the Lord now
and all blessings will be yours

It was most inappropriate to marry

English
Sloka:
Dakshan gets very angry on hearing that Siva has suddenly left with his daughter. He forgets that Siva is the Supreme Lord, and thinks of him merely as his son-in-law. Nursing a big grudge against Siva, Daksha spoke to the gods with contempt.

It was most inappropriate to marry
off my daughter to Siva
without knowing about his character
that lacks maturity, pride or social stature
