Scene 2 Karna's vow
Story Play (Attakkatha):
Karnasapatham
Kunti comes and Karna's vow.
Why is this doubt gnawing my mind?
O Kuntidevi, I bow
Karna, O merciful!
Aren’t your sons my enemies?
Aren’t you generous to a supplicant?
What should I do, please tell me
Ties with Kouravas, you valiant,
To utter such harsh words
Let me tell you a truth
Alas! O God! What am I hearing?
Mother! my whole story I now learn
My dearest, for your brothers today you are
Don’t speak pointless words
My Son! My dearest!
Questions I too have
O Karna! Enough of these harsh words
Say no further; even if great men dither
Alas! my mind, my eldest son,
It’s well-known I do not spurn those who seek my help
My brother, hear clearly this younger brother’s words
Wicked! Wicked! Stop these harsh words
Oh Crown of humanity!
I heard the whole story, O son of Pridha
O God! To leave you Duryodhana
My dear friend, the promise I had made to your dear wife
‹ I bow at your feet
up
Why is this doubt gnawing my mind? ›
