Narrator: 

Thus hearing from Narada about Damayanti,

And also remembering the words of the people praising her purity,

Nala lost his heart to her and lost its calm

And he was left thoughtful of her charm.

 

(Nala in contemplation):

 

I just heard Damayanti is surpassed by no maiden in this earth and in the heaven,

So I hear from sage Narada’s mien.

 

I keep hearing about her virtue,

I am not ashamed I lost to you, Rama

I am now leaving to do penance.

 

Sloka:

Hearing these words, Parasurama looked at Sreerama closely and saw the form of Vishnu in him. Sage Parasurama happily said thus.

Here I have strung your bow,

now tell me where to send the arrow

 

To kill a Brahmin like you

I consider it improper

 

Your good deeds or your mind’s strength,

tell me which one should I break.

 

Here take my bow now and

string it if you can

 

If what you say is true Bhargava

Then who am I, O revered sage?

 

I have destroyed the entire Kshatriya

clan; haven’t you heard that?

 

But that woman was not my mother,

O great soul known for noble deeds!
