Narayanan Koodallur Mana Sunil, I remember mainly two occasions - Trust's celebrations on ramankutti ashan's sapthathi and kottakkal sivaraman's shashtipoorthi.
RK's sapthathi was especially memorable - sadanam harikumar's controversial comment in the meeting against RK ("aavarthana virasatha") and KBRajanandan's instant reply on the stage was one interesting thing, after that we saw RK's thrilling performance as utbhavam ravanan for 3.5 hours my god!! i can't forget that ravanan at all.
before thapassaattam it was drissling outside,the shade and chairs were only for 350 people but there were around 500 people. since i chew tobacco i was standing in the last row outside the shade.then by the time of thapassaattam heavy raining started(!!!) but there was no space(soochi kuthuvathinnum illa) inside so we 10-15 people stood outside enjoying thapassaattam and rain together!! i used to feel in rare occasions that 2chenda + 2 maddalam are not enough for some roles, for me one occasion is RK's patapurappaad in utbhavam (more than his narakasuran) another occasion i felt is offcourse on Gopiashan's roudrabheeman (in his 50s and 60s) i had enjoyed RK's utbhavam ravanan about 10 or more times but this was something special i felt.
second occasion - kottakkal sivaraman's 60th birthday - keezhpadam's kirm.dharamaputhrar was excellent(he was 80 yrs old!!!) alongwith gangadharan's paattu -

Narayanan Koodallur Mana kottakkal Sivaraman shashtipoorthi's video VHS was distributed later there. RK's sapthathi's video i dont know.
1994 samaaroham - i could attend one day(nalacharitham) only because koodiyattam festival in irinjalakuda was at the same time with fantastic performances of Ammannur Madhava chakyar including udhyaanapravesham. i was very fortunate to enjoy his master piece role of azhaku ravanan - Mr.G.Venu announced "Chakyar is at his 79 now so he may be able to do a sample only, please bear with us".
Ravanan's pravesham (around 6.45pm) was very attractive (stage was with natural oil lamps - chiraathu,thookku vilakku etc - and without any electric lights), as you know azhaku ravanan format is the same in koodiyattam and kathakali. but in koodiyattam seetha is symbolic - just a small lamp only!!. Ravanan started seetha's "paadaadikesham and keshadipaadam varnana" and then started tempting her with ornaments and others,finally got angry took chandrahaasam,mandodari prevented,Ravanan goes back - time 11.00pm!! if this was the sample what will be his previous real performances?!! - i wondered.
when i counted in the hall there were throughout a total 45people only,out of which 15 or more were foreigners and they took full video and fotos,but i dont know whether Natanakairali have that video.
sorry i could not avoid mentioning here about the abovesaid great Azhaku Ravanan!!! -
